Fun is subjective. I personally love their easy setup and easy teardown. You can be on the water in five minutes and they're fast and exciting to sail.
Hey Joe! I've been out on my 84 (16) 12 times (total). I was hooked after watching your videos. The first 9 times were great except the rigging and unrigging for trailering. I've been leaving it on a local beach for the last few outings but am becoming discouraged with the effort required to haul the boat up an incline 100' through deep, loose sand. I made a set of beach wheels with cradles and 15" wheels that made the effort more difficult than dragging the boat without them. I put a set of 24" dock wheels on that ,greatly, reduced the effort but if I'm alone I wind up catching my breath every 15' or so. Your knowledge of every aspect of catamaran life is vastly more than most of the people, I've seen; so I thought you might be able to tell me of a less strenuous method or maybe that I need to saddle up and get it done, or just elicit some help. Thanks for all that your channel has given to making people aware of a life off the couch and on the water.
How would you alter an F18 to be able sail single handed. I would like to sail more than crew is available. Max rake and two reefingpoints in the main was my idea.. -What do you think?
Joe what great video's, so helpfull. I've got a problem with refurbishing my Prindle 18. I contact you from The Netherlands so it is North Sea sailing here. Need to replace the forestay, pigtail and shrouds however the original set on the cat has been a hobbyproject of the previous owner and cannot be trusted. I'm looking for the exact lengths measured from the masthorn. The pigtail has two wires obviously. Something I noticed, some shrouds do not have the neopreen white protection on them, what is your opinion on that? Hope you can help me, thanks. Regards, Bart Jan
Heyho, have a nice day to everybody

Hello Joseph, Thanks again for your wonderful videos and explanations. You are the only one in the WORLD to do explicit tutorials on sport catamarans. Is there a specific place to install the spinnaker blocks (on the side of the hull)? Do you also have to use a double pulley system for the spinnaker pole tack (spinnaker in a bag)? How do you define the length of the spinnaker pole? I've still got thousands of questions, but that's for another episode... ahahaha! Many thanks Joe. David sails at Bray-Dunes (Fr) with a HC16 and a Mattia S (F18), but is a beginner.
I'm really grateful for your videos! I signed up for a multilingual cat sailing classes but the teacher only says a few words in English here and there so I've been missing out on a lot and it's been really difficult
Thanks, I'm glad that the videos are helpful.
Let me chip in also. You made it happen that I took my catamaran out in the bay of Angola, Africa! Thanks and go well in Italy! 💪
Thanks very much!! Sailing in Angola must be amazing!!
We always called it the Bearded Clam
Ha! Yes..
Learnt on a Wayfarer, then a Topper to start racing as a kid. Got good enough to become a regular crew on a competitive Hobie 16 in handicap races. Fell in love with Hobies right there but could never afford one or have space for one, so windsurfing was my adrenaline sailing for many years. I’ve now got my baby….a 10 year old refurbed 16 and I love her!! Joe your vids are awesome - thank you for the hours of entertainment Hopefully I’ll see you one day in either Vass or Flixtoe - being a Norfolk boy I do like a day out to the east Anglia’s version of Brighton beach !
Ha! Yes, I never thought of it like that but yes, there is an element of Brighton. Congratulations on the 16. Great times ahead!!
I think the pressure is very important for a comfy quality sail on an inflatable. How about a small litium battery with airpump to keep the pressure perfect at all times?
Good idea!
@@JoyriderTVon second thought: these large RV’s and trucks have automatic pressurecontrol permanently attached compressor on their tyres.
@@JoyriderTVI sailed a Tornado before and then an A-cat. But I am 70 now and wanted to sail larger distances solo and with more safety and shelter for myself. Very difficult to choose another cat or tree when you know a Tornado and an A-cat.
Mighta saved it if crew popped the jib...
I might have thought so at the time......
Good Luck Joe!
Thanks!!
I was in Vassiliki sailing lasers 2 weeks ago. I have to say that it’s not good for sailing - the wind is very unpredictable as the bay is surrounded by mountains. There are doldrums everywhere and the wind just switches around without warning. I, and several others, got hit with the boom many times. It’s unavoidable. I ended up with a detached retina 😢. I do have an RYA day skipper sailing, so I’m no a noob. I, in retrospect, would recommend getting out past the bay and influence of the mountains if your sailing a dinghy.
I’m guessing it was the Wildwind resort. That’s were I was and I recognise the terrain and they have loads of lasers.
I'm so sorry that you didn't have good conditions while you were here. I sailed in Vassiliki at that time and i would definitely agree - the wind was awful. Unpredictable, massive shifts and gusts out of nowhere. Not that it helps, but those conditions are pretty rare during the sailing season here and it is gerenally pretty constant with around 8knots onshore in the mornings and between 15 and 25 knots in the afternoons.
Thanks this was useful
Glad it helped
From this point on, I’ll forever call my paddle “The Secret Weapon “
Yes! Me too!!
Yes we do so !
Not long now....
Great action and fun💪🏻 Would be great with a big T recovery video after a capsize as well🙏🏻
Ha! Yes, I was actually trying to avoid that - the T goes pretty fast on it's side - in that wind it could have got quite emotional!!
Sam's Miami to Bahamas in a catamaran trip was one of the most crazy / most stupid RUclips videos I have ever seen. No one should watch that and think it's a good idea. I wish you would value your life more than you do Sam.
Yes, pretty sketchy stuff - I just hope that he had a powerboat nearby out of shot. Others should definitely not try to replicate - stay within sight of land.
This goose is well done... 😂 I wish you winds like this in Rimini, pls, no low-wind-festival!
Thanks. Yes, If we get a bit of wind we should be ok.
Your hiking bad you have to hike more good
Thanks for your tip. I'll try to hike better!
1:00 American accent jumpscare 😮😂
I thought it was more west country UK
For best up windspeed raise your leeward board, and lower your Windward board. Try to keep your Windward hull just clear of the water, and the bow of your leeward hull 2-3 inches above the water. it worked for me.
Thanks for the tips!
Could you build a stainless backing plate that will slide inside the track? I’ve done similar. Pre-drill and use a feeder to align it properly. Tap the backing plate. Give me a shout for more detail. The speed run last year on Franken, we took the jib off and hit the number.
Thanks for the idea. I've got a few options now that i'm looking at. Yes with the jib off she went really well.
Hey Joe - Waterspeed tracks your heart rate too - how was yours during this run!?? Ave 150?
Ha! Yes, getting on for that.
Can confirm, blowing dogs off chains the 16 can beat them around a course ,have done it on more than one occasion.Have raced and owned both.
Around the course - upwind downwind, the Tornado should win. On a reaching course the 16 has the advantage
Always good to clean things up, but then the question is, what kind of boat Is burned in the background? (And why didn't you like it?)
Ha yes! It's one that we don't like to mention.
That was inspiring
Thanks!! It was a great sail!!
Not sure I fully understand the issue but could drill a hole fit a riv nut (ally or 316 A4 stainless and use an A4 grade machine screw
Thanks for the idea.
Weld it
Seems like a very good plan.
What makes the 14 so difficult? Isn't it easier to right than the heavier boats? Is there any helping accessories for righting on the FX One?
It's the low volume hulls that are the main thing that makes it more challenging
@@JoyriderTV Isn't it easier to right than the heavier boats? Is there any helping accessories for righting on the FX One?
@@PoulHansenDK yes, certainly easier to right. It's just the sailing that requires more technique For righting the FX you could use a bag like in this video: ruclips.net/video/1UyUZOP94-8/видео.html Or a righting pole or frame.
Mamma mia, no more Swedish Jon. He was a Super Trouper. Still, now Sir Ben is crewing we can all expect many World titles.
Yes, unfortunately no more Abba references with Ben!
Wild ❤
100%
Drill all the way through and use a stainless bolt and stainless nylon locking nut. Use low profile bolt heads as needed.
Great tip! Thanks
You see I told you that with high winds , Tornado, Tiger goes even faster without jib as less down force on the hull 😊👍 DPat 😊
You were certainly right!!
Heyho, like button pushed and let the show begin.....have a good day to everybody 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!!
good crew work some trouble with the jib track eh??
Yes, a bolt pulling out.
downwind looking good!
I think, I should have heated it up more to get the hull higher but fear got in the way.
Mast rotation will balance you out better if you adjust it...also you are still ploughing along on the stern, its sailed like a hobie..you need to balance the water line of the hull with your movement forwards mostly more, from what can be seen in the fish eye video, bows on T's don't normally fly up in a gust, but at all times you need to be moving more dynamically to balance the waterline, fun times !
We were certainly curling our toes to stay attached. Yes, I think especially without the jib we were too far back - looking at it. I think we could be more dynamic generally. Not so much more training time now before the Worlds so we'll have to apply it during the event.
Hi ❤
Ahoy there.
. I'm happy that you were the champion at Lake Como and your good morning is fantastic. In July I will have to do the European championship in dragoon at Lake Garda, at the Univela club.
Nice! That's going to be an amazing event. Good luck.
0:36 Was that a cat on a cat or a glitch in the matrix.
Glitch in the Matrix for sure/
I don't know why Gopo can't get there act together The first one I got wouldn't start and second overheated now this 💦
They've been so reliable in the past. It's such a shame./
Thank u from the Philippines 🇵🇭
You're welcome!!
Love the camera but I really bought this camera and laid out a lot of money to get GPS really disappointed
Yes. I have the same feeling. If i'd have got the camera a few weeks earlier I could have saved you the disappointment.
Holy crap! That is dogs off chains!!!! Or possibly even dogs off TRAINS- perhaps backwoods Florida expert Doug Fogg should be intrinsic to this convo
Blowing the wheels off trains, maybe..... Thanks for your donation to the Worlds fund. Much appreciated.
Hey Joe, Better late than never with my feedback! I noticed that your pace seemed a bit slower during the first downwind leg (Timestamp 9:35). I noticed the telltales on the backside of your mainsail weren't flying straight backward. However, during your second downwind leg (Timestamp 26:47), your pace seemed faster than the boat behind you. This isn't a criticism, but rather a shared observation. Of course, this isn't about a basic discussion of sail positions on a broad reach but rather about optimizing performance during a race. I'm also trying to figure out the perfect tension in my mainsail to suit the course and wind strength during downwind legs. It's challenging for me to make the right adjustments. Perhaps you could discuss this topic in your livestream or share your experiences in another way. Best Winds, Robert
Thanks for that Robert. Yes, I'll give this some thought and talk about it in this week's Q+A. Cheers
Maybe, could you make your question more specific - is it just downwind that you're referring to?
@@JoyriderTV Yes, the question is how I can improve my performance on a downwind leg. I steer to maintain a 90° angle with the apparent wind, adjusting my course to either bear down and gain speed on a deeper course or head up to pick up speed. The main sheet tension isn't defined at this point, so I rely on my intuition and keep it loose. Should I sheet out until the telltales fly in the correct direction, or how do you manage the sheet tension in these situations?
Круто люблю парусный спорт. Завидую вашему ветру
Yes, we certainly have the best conditions here in Greece
hay love the content, I want to tow my Hobie 18 behind a house boat. long distance, with out being on it. I have tried to tow it off the water one other time with little success. can you make any suggestion's
That's a great question for the Q+A on Friday Thanks
